HISTORY OF
FUJI RYU TAIJUTSU
Fuji Ryu Taijutsu was founded
by Grandmaster Fujito Koga in 1952 and is rooted in Grandmaster Soukaku
Takeda's Daito Ryu Jujutsu. The
beauty of being rooted in this particular style is that from it evolved the
three very distinct styles of Grandmaster Morihei Ueshiba's
Aikido, Grandmaster Houken Inoue's
Shinwa Taido and Grandmaster Koga’s
Fuji Ryu Taijutsu. Grandmaster Inoue
and Grandmaster Koga were training partners and traveled throughout Japan
honing and teaching their advanced techniques to the different law
enforcement agencies and during this time, Fuji Ryu Taijutsu was born.
In 1991 Grandmaster Koga passed the position of Grandmaster to Master
Koshiro Tanaka, who then went on to develop over 1000 techniques that form
the curriculum for the school today. Grandmaster Tanaka has traveled
throughout the world teaching and training elite military and police forces
in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand (the Narcotics
Suppression Bureau, Royal Thai Police), Vietnam, Philippines (the Philippine
National Police, SWAT), Kuwait (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy), Tibet (The Dalai
Lama's security), and The United States.
Master Takeuchi has been fortunate to accompany Grandmaster Tanaka on
many of his trips and it was at Grandmaster Tanaka's recommendation that
Master Takeuchi moved from Tokyo to New York City to open Fuji Ryu's first
U.S. branch.
You may remember
Master Takeuchi from his seminar assisting
Master Tanaka at
Chamberlain Studios in 2006 and from the seminar in 2009 below!
