About us:
Chamberlain Studios of Self-Defense™ is an organization dedicated to
providing the very best in martial-arts instruction, featuring modern
techniques combined with traditional training methods.
The organization was started by Dr. Nick Chamberlain in Boston,
Massachusetts in 1981. In 1993 the school re-located to Dallas, TX and
then settled into our current headquarters facility (hombu dojo) in January
of 2003.
Headquarters location:
Our headquarters school is located at 2739 Bachman Drive, in Dallas, Texas,
at the Southeast corner of Northwest Highway and Webb Chapel Extension.
We are proud to continue the tradition of martial arts at this location
since it was originally built in 1974 by Master Vince Tamura, as the home of the Tamura Judo Institute.
Master Tamura is still associated with the school as are many of his top
students through our Judo program.
Many thanks to all the friends, family and students that donated their time,
tools, expertise and money to the renovation project during the fall of 2002
and into 2003, especially Ed Chamberlain and Danny Smith. With the
addition of a sprung floor, full mats, showers and a pro shop, we are proud to offer a world class, state-of-the-art
training facility.
Instructors and Styles:
Since 2003 our programs
have grown from the original classes in Kenpo Karate, to include Aikido,
Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Aiki Ju-Jutsu, and Kung Fu, all with
expert instructors in their own styles.
Tuition:
Chamberlain Studios uses non contract billing (you can stay or leave at any
time). The details
are here.
Chamberlain Studios brings together people from all walks of life with the common
goals of friendship, martial arts, and hard work!
We look forward to you joining us on the mat! Basic etiquette for the
martial artist:
For those of you new to the martial arts world and traditional dojo training, the
following is an outline of general dojo etiquette that you would find in
most schools that teach in a traditional setting. Each style has its
own do's and don'ts but here is a general overview for most situations:
Outline of basic Dojo Etiquette.
