Kenpo Karate Adult Classes

Go here for the Kid's Classes

Whether you start studying martial arts as a child, or as an adult, we can offer superb training for you. Our curriculum is based on individual training with Black-Belt instructors, and continues in group settings throughout the week. This individualized attention can help you focus on areas and truly develop your skills. Besides the practical self-defense skills we teach, our system teaches respect, instills confidence through hard-work and self-discipline, and can help develop virtues of character that apply throughout your life, not just in the dojo.

The new classes at our flagship Lakewood facility are designed for beginner students.  The classes offer an introduction to martial art fundamentals, including the why as well as the how.  Check below for more information.

The new classes at our flagship Lakewood facility are designed for beginner students.  The classes offer an introduction to martial art fundamentals, including the why as well as the how.

The typical one hour class format splits each session into six, 10 minute training blocks consisting of:

  • Warm up and range of motion,
  • Fundamentals (practice of strikes, kicks, blocks, stances, etc.),
  • Review and practice of previous self defense material,
  • Review and practice of previous kata (pre-arranged forms),
  • New material,
  • Matwork/groundwork basics.

Classes on Monday and Tuesday have more emphasis on Self Defense, classes on Wednesday and Thursday have more emphasis on kata and matwork.  The Friday morning workout with sensei Mike is an open mat workout under his direction.  The Saturday class with Dr. Chamberlain emphasizes review and a good workout!

  • The Cross Training class with Coach Martin (Taut Fitness) is not a martial arts class although it contains the core fitness drills from many areas of training taken from boxing, karate, judo, etc..
