3 Steps to a Great Kid™
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The
Best Kids Program...Just Got Even Better!!
The 3 Steps to a Great
Kid™
After School Program meets
daily, Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-6:30pm* beginning August 27th, 2007. This
is an exciting opportunity to get your kids (K-6) involved in a safe,
fun and well supervised program that stresses character development through
training in the martial arts, including homework, games and reading. The program will continue during school
vacations* and holidays.
You
may drop off your child at our after school headquarters
at the newly
renovated
Annex Building (Ridgewood Recreation Center), or they can be professionally picked up
by our Karate bus and brought to the center for you. When they arrive,
they sign in, change into their Karate uniform*, and eat a snack from home
(or they can buy
one from us). Students then have the opportunity to participate in our
martial arts program 3
Steps to a Great Kid™.
This program incorporates martial
arts, character development, child safety and tasks to be completed at home
(all explained on their monthly worksheets).
More information is also available at our website
www.GreatKids123.com

They then have time to read, play or do
homework under the supervision
of our staff. Every
day includes training in the martial arts at the Ridgewood facility under
experienced Black Belt instructors. Your child will get physical exercise,
learn discipline, manners, and respect for teachers, parents and other
students as well as themselves. In addition they will learn lifelong skills
that will provide an ongoing benefit
both in school and at home. Compare this with other programs and
we think you’ll agree that this is the best around! Family discounts

Our second type of after school Karate program is offered in two formats. The
first is a six week introductory class that meets one day a week for an hour. This is to introduce students
to the martial arts and the benefits of training in a fun and safe
environment with the convenience of an after school timetable. The
second is an ongoing, school year Karate program offering all the benefits
of continued training 1-2 times per week. If you would like to have one of our programs
offered at your school, contact us at 214-351-5367 and discuss with us how
we can help to make great kids!
Worksheets and additional information for the after school
program are available in our MEMBERS section from the drop down menu
above. The User Name and Password are printed on the
class handouts brought home by your children, or call one of our instructors
for more information at: 214-351-5367.

Class size is limited and eligibility is based on regular attendance,
completion of the 3 Steps to a Great Kid™
program, grades and the student's behavior in and outside of the class.
A Karate uniform and belt is required for training and can be purchased from
the instructor, Kathy Dunn.
This ongoing class uses the full 3 Steps to a Great Kid™
program and not the shortened version shown below.
How Does The Program Work?
3-Steps to a Great Kid™ is a martial arts character development
program designed by Dr. Nick Chamberlain in conjunction with top educators.
The program follows the precept that "character is demonstrated through your
actions". For this reason the program is largely action or behavior based.
As the name suggests, the 3-Steps to a Great Kid™
program uses training in three areas, all done within the framework of a
traditional
martial arts program. It is modified and condensed here for our 6 week after
school program.
STEP 1: Daily Tasks Worksheet.
This is a 5 week, daily worksheet that cover s tasks and responsibilities in
such areas as: Personal Hygiene; Academics; Martial Arts; and Home Duties,
etc. The 3 Steps to a Great Kid™ information and monthly worksheets
are now downloadable from the MEMBERS area of our website in Adobe
PDF format! This makes it easier for many of our families to obtain
information on a consistent basis. If you prefer, the sheets are still
available from your instructors at the different locations. You can get the
USERNAME and PASSWORD from the handout materials or the class
instructor.
STEP 2: Character Virtue. This
consists of ongoing class discussion of a monthly character virtue and how
it relates to Karate training, family and the home, school and academics,
and themselves.
STEP 3: Child Safety Topic.
There is no point in getting a great kid if you don't get to keep them.
The monthly child safety topic covers such areas as: Stranger Danger; How to
Deal with Bullies; Who am I?; and The Buddy System, etc.
The goal of the six week 3-Steps to a Great Kid™ After School Program is
for the kids to have fun, learn some martial arts, and earn as many stripes
on their new Karate belts as they can!
More information is available from the official 3 Steps to a Great Kid™
website at www.GreatKids123.com
