Stonewall Jackson Dojo - Kids Classes
A dojo is the school, or the physical building in which instruction
takes place. The Stonewall dojo is housed within the
Stonewall Jackson
Elementary School located at: 5828 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas
75206.
The head instructor
at the Stonewall dojo is sensei
Kory Helfman (on the right).
The Stonewall location offers karate classes designed specifically for children.
Our curriculum is based on
expert training with experienced instructors. Besides the practical self-defense skills we teach, our system teaches respect, instills confidence through hard-work and self-discipline, and can help develop virtues of character that apply throughout your life, not just in the dojo.
The Stonewall location offers our 3
Steps to a Great Kid™ program. This is a character development
program structured around a traditional martial arts curriculum, and was developed by
Dr. Nick Chamberlain in conjunction with
top educators. The program is designed to fill a void often left in a
child's education between their school, traditional sports and the home
environment.
Below is a message from sensei Kory to the families involved in the Fall
2011 semester
Hi parents,
Welcome back from summer vacation! I am excited to hear how the summer
months have altered the children's lives for the better, and all the various
activities and places they visited. I enjoy being reacquainted again after
the time away.
My question for (you) the parent is...
"Was your student / child able to practice what was taught to them in both
safety topics and character training over the summer months?" This is a
question I will be asking the returning students as well.
Below are the new times and information for this semester.
There is a big change this year. There will be a "beginners class". This
class will be offered to the kinder kids as well as any new student (of any
grade) wishing to learn Kenpo. The reason for the change "of allowing Kinder
kids early" is the opening of the Lakewood dojo. The students (both new and
existing) will be able to take 2 (mandatory) or more classes per week. This
is a positive development in the training of character and technique
(especially the younger ones).
The first day will be Wednesday, August 31st. This will be a "free
day" for all students wishing to participate.
The class times:
3:35 pm - 4:05 pm (all white belts, Kinder thru 5th)
4:10 pm - 4:50 pm (white belts w/ black stripes, and yellow
belts)
4:50 pm - 5:30 pm (yellow belts w/ black stripes, and higher)
The first official day (with Gi and Obi expected) is September 7th.
***if the
student has grown out of their uniform, please inform us to
reserve a new one with back logo the dojo is now using. I will be assisted
this year by Chris Valentine, Bill Taylor, and at various times by Brian
Uskovich, and Sensei Kellyn. I will also call upon parental support from
the "benches".
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Chamberlain Studios is here for you and your family.
