Gasan Ryu Kenpo - Belt Ranking System

Gasan Ryu (Moon-Mountain style) is a practical, efficient, and easy to learn system that incorporates the kicking and punching of Karate, the throws, locks and matt-work of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, the explosive striking power of Kenpo, and the hand techniques of western boxing.

The belt colors are traditional for Kenpo through Godan/5th Grade Black Belt.  Out of respect for the Kajukenbo system and Professor Nick Cerio, Soke of Nick Cerio's Kenpo, the higher ranks and titles are taken from these systems.

In addition, junior students have half ranks, which are keyed to the 3-Steps to a Great Kid program.  The belts have a longitudinal black stripe that runs the length of the belt in the center, as shown below.

The Junior Black Belt is for those dedicated junior students that have completed the material through Black Belt, and are at least 14 years old, but that are not yet old enough or mature enough to hold the adult rank of Shodan (must be 16 years old).  At age 16, they are invited by the adult Black Belts to join the Yudanshakai.
